3 Ways To Beat Body Insecurities

I love autumn and all of the warm and cozy things that is brings – hot cocoa, bonfires, oversized sweaters, leggings, knee boots. I have to admit, one of the major reasons that I love this season is because of those big cozy sweaters – you see the truth is that I have insecurities. I am not afraid to admit it. Sometimes I like to hide myself under billowy sweaters. I have days where I feel great about my body and head out of the door with pep in my step. I also have days where I want to curl up in the corner and burn every pair of jeans in my closet. Having insecurities as a woman is normal – not because being a woman lends to picking ourselves apart, but, because of the messages and standards that society feeds us.

Today I want to remind you that no matter your shape or size you are so uniquely beautiful and no worldly standard can ever determine your worth. Read on for some helpful tips to keep your body confidence up and your heart encouraged.

3-ways-to-beat-body-insecurities-the-nosh-life
By the world’s standards our worth and our beauty is bound up in the size of our jeans. We are so much more than that number. The standards that we are held to are not real. We know it, and yet, we still judge ourselves by those standards. I am guilty of this a myself, lately.

Stop Comparing Yourself To Others.
Comparison kills joy. There is no one else in this world that has your talents or your heart. We are completely unique and yet we long to be the same – to have the same hair, the same eyes, the same long legs as her. I am so guilty of this myself. It is one of the hardest things in world to banish comparison. Because we live in a world driven by media we naturally weigh appeal and value by what is aesthetically pleasing, because that is what we are constantly told matters most. What is more important than physical beauty is the heart of a person. A heart of kindness and love, a heart of generosity, patience, and a heart of strength. We are given one life and one body. God created you so uniquely and so differently. He perfectly knit you together with every weakness and every strength, every flaw and every perfection. He makes no mistakes. Your life and your body are not worthy of comparison.

The other day I was at a location taking pictures for the blog and I lamented, to Austin, that I felt full in my thighs. He quickly replied: “Well you’re not, but, it’s okay to be fuller. You are beautiful as you are, in any form”. The simple truth of Austin’s statement struck me deeply – It is okay to be full figured, and It is okay to be lean. It is okay to be tall, short, have freckles, a crooked smile. It is okay – no, it is beautiful – to be you.

Banish comparison from your mind and your heart! Comparison has no place in our lives as women because we are beautiful just as we are, in any form – full figured, lean,  and everything in between.

3-ways-to-beat-body-insecurities-the-nosh-life

Embrace Your Beautiful Flaws & Nourish Your Body
Flaws.. everybody has them and nobody wants them. I have physical imperfections that I am acutely aware of, but, those “flaws” are a part of who I am and so, I love them. I embrace them because no one else has my big slightly crooked smile, no one else has my size four hips and small torso, and no one else has my incurably alabaster skin. Those supposed flaws are beautiful because they are me. Your “flaws” are not flaws at all. Your imperfections are beautiful because they are you, so uniquely you.

Embrace your body and embrace yourself. God created you – every perfectly imperfect inch. Making peace with your body is the key to beating insecurity. The first and best place to start is to nourish your body. Drink plenty of water, eat foods that provide energy and nutrient benefits, and get outside and exercise! When our bodies are healthy, we feel better physically, and, in turn, we feel better emotionally. Being physically and emotionally balanced leaves us free love who we are – heart, mind, and body!

Refuse To Indulge Negative Thoughts.
Negative thoughts lead to unrealistic ideals. Ideals that we cannot afford to have as women. Refuse to indulge negative thoughts about your body by cutting them out by the root – remove negative media from your life, whether it is a television show, a magazine, or even the social accounts of another women that you envy. Banishing body shaming media from your life [ directly negative or comparison inducing ] leaves room for you to nourish your mind with truth and positive body perspectives.

We are our own worst critics. Having a healthy mindset rooted in the truth of our worth is an important aspect of beating body insecurities for good!

This style post is a long time coming. I posted (  THIS pic ) on Instagram and announced that this divine nautical outfit would be up on the blog on Monday.. a week ago. I had the best of intentions, you guys! I sat down at least three times to edit and write, but, life took over. I have to say, I am more than okay with that. I realized that sometimes we have to take a step back from these little black keys, and fully engagement in the life around us. Our online spaces are important and special but they aren’t  going anywhere. Moments of laughter, moments to store up lasting memories, moments of love.. those are fleeting. Snatch up every chance you have to soak in those moments! Your online space will right here waiting for you 🙂

On another note: I am loving these nautical vibes. Living in a town that is 100% boating/beach oriented, this outfit just makes sense. I hate boating, mind you. It pains me to be trapped on a sea vessel with salty air whipping the lion’s mane, and stinging my eyes. This outfit is my way of embracing the “salt life”.. without getting salty or wind whipped. Speaking of being wind whipped.. Massive shoutout to windblown half top-knots.

W E A R I N G:

TOP: Bailey44   This top is from last season and I can’t find it anywhere online!

SKIRT:  Banana Republic  |  This ridiculously comfy skirt is out of stock right now. Sad dayHERE is a fun alternative.

WEDGES: Jessica Simpson  |  These wedges are another case of “oops last season”, and that was at least three seasons ago. YikesHERE is the updated version. I secretly love them more than the wedges I already have.

BAG: Shabby Apple  |  Apparently handbags are no longer an option at Shabby Apple. Crazy right?

NECKLACE: This necklace was gifted to me from my Aunt a number of years ago. It sparkles like crazy in person. It’s magical 😉

What is your stance on nautical vibes? Have you needed to ‘step back’ from your social platform and catch your breathe? Let’s chit-chat about it in the comments!
Have a beautiful day, Jen xo

Dresses with pockets are the treasure of the fashion world. These pockets, in reality, have no real use.. except to make your dress especially cute! I feel a strong sense of aggressive excitement when I see a dress ( or my wallet forbid, a skirt ) with pockets. What is it about being able to shove your hands into the sides of your dress and stand around like one of the cool kids? I am slowly amassing pocket dresses, and it brings me a great deal of satisfaction.
I am curious what you guys think of this hue of blue. I normally steer away from blue, but, I really could not resist this dress! It such a striking color, and the cut is great for bopping around in warmer weather ( if it ever comes! ). Plus it is under $80. I think I will bring more blue shades into my wardrobe! It really is a fresh, happy color.
On a completely different note.. I am giddy with excitement over the cheesiest thing. I purchased my very first Valentine’s Day card for a guy. Ever. I am twenty four years old. This has been a long time coming! The card has hearts and a proclamation of love. I committed. Buying that card is one of the sappiest things I have ever done. I was always against “such silliness”, but I now proudly proclaim that I am secretly soaking up every cheesy bit of Valentine’s Day. I shared a little bit of my heart, toward my special guy, on my Instagram the other day, and received the sweetest little outpouring of support from you girls. It truly touched my heart. God’s grace and provision have awed and humbled me. My guy’s heart has been completely captured by Christ. He pushes me toward the Lord daily, and love me selflessly. What a blessing to have this Valentine’s Day.

What do you girls think: Loving the blue? Are pockets the bee’s knees? What is the cheesiest thing you have ever done for a guy? Share your fashion & love two cents in the comments!

xo, Jen

P.S. Did I mention that this dress has the sweetest criss-cross strap action going on in the back? Well, it does! I have failed you tremendously by forgetting to turn around for the camera. C’est la vie.

I am all about comfort. Give me a cozy sweater, a pair of sturdy booties, a classic timepiece, some stretch denim and I am as happy as a clam. I like the idea of chic comfort. Especially with a Valentine’s date night right around the corner. Who says you cannot look sophisticated and be especially comfortable at the same time? You wear that slouchy sweater, girl! Rock that clean line denim.
Would you believe that I am twenty-four years old and I have never had a real Valentine before? Quality time with family, my love, my dearest of friends. It is the little moments shared, the laughter, and the real conversations that root deep down into my heart. Time spent is a jewel.

I am wearing a skirt over a dress. Yes, I have done it, girls. It works like an absolute charm! It has been uncommonly cold this past week so I had to step up my cold weather outfit game ( that was a mouthful ).  I popped this to die for floral midi skirt on over my warmest sweater dress and got all swoony over it. The length, the cut, the pockets. It is the prettiest triple threat!
I must admit, I have always been a little skeptical about the whole skirts over dresses thing. Now I have done it myself. It rocked my socks off! I highly recommend this little trick. Give it a go and then come back and tell me all about how it changed your fashion life!
Have you tried a skirt over a dress? Loved it? Hated it? Share your fashion adventures in the comments!  Have beautiful day, Jen xo

December is my favorite month you guys. Everything about it feels magical. The twinkling lights on every house, the smell of mocha lattes brewing, the classic songs on the radio, the excitement of seeing gifts under the tree. It is a happy and most joyous time of year! The street lights here, that run along the main street downtown, are shaped much like candy canes and are currently wrapped with red and white lights.. I need not express my childlike enthusiasm over candy cane lane. I inwardly squeal every time I drive down that road.
With all of the Christmas cheer comes holiday parties! A fashion lovers dream. Shimmery festive dresses are great, but I wanted something different this year. Something classic.. with a twist. I give you a romper. A romper with tights. YAASSS. I had this simple black romper tucked away in the back of my closet from summertime. Paired with jet black tights and a few unique glitzy accessories, it shines! It is a fun and flirty twist for this year’s holiday parties. Classic and oh so fun!
Speaking of accessories.. I am a little obsessed with the necklace I am wearing. The green glass beads catch the light and dance on the eye. It is so festive and sophisticated. I am in love! I am extra excited for you guys because Sierra, from Manic Trout, has so generously offered to giveaway one of her beautiful necklaces! Just in time for Christmas no less. You can enter to win in the Rafflecopter below. There are only a few entries so it is especially easy. Happy early Christmas, girls! 😉

Just a few things…
ONE. I am so happy about this crisp weather lately. I can finally wear all of the cozy tops that I have been hoarding in my closet! Summer is great, do not get me wrong. It has its own treasures. But that fall tho. I ordered this amazing top from Joseph Ribkoff a month or so ago. Cropped top overlay, leather piping, gold zippers on the sides.. It is everything a girl could want! Did I mention that it is extremely comfortable? Well, it is!
TWO. Long walks, deep conversation, and effortless laughter has reminded me lately how precious each moment is. It is easy to take the people we cherish most for granted, and overlook how special even the smallest moment can be. Sometimes it is the smallest things that mean the most. Soak up every minute you have with the dearest to your heart. Wallow in the moments. Drink them in.
THREE. Why is it that cool weather deceives me into thinking that I can eat whatever I want? Ice cream.. by all means. What’s that, a cookie? Better eat it. Need help finishing that piece of quiche?
Perhaps it is the high-waisted leggings and slouchy sweaters. All of that room for a few extra pounds!
FOUR. Speaking of gaining weight. Asparagus hash brown crust quiche is the best thing that your tastebuds will ever encounter. I found this out in a moment of desperation. I popped into Common Ground, a local coffee shop, and selected a piece of asparagus quiche out of extreme post-gym hunger. It was the best thing that I have ever eaten. End of story.
FIVE. A friend of mine did me a really sweet favor yesterday. She took a few minutes of her time and graciously gave them to me, walking down to my work to bring me lunch because I could not leave the shop. It was a simple favor, a generous gesture, and it touched my heart tremendously. Even if you have just a moment to give to someone or to do a small favor for them, it matters. It is no small thing in the end. Take advantage of those moments. You never know how impactful they might be.
Your turn! What are a few happenings or thoughts that you would like to share?
