Kitchen Essentials: Outfitting Your First Kitchen With Calphalon

Hey babes! I hope you are having a wonderful Monday. A whole new week is here which means I am that much closer to marrying the love of my life! [ I have a count down and I’m not ashamed of it! ]

When Austin and I first got engaged I wasted no time making our registry. I spent hours choosing each pretty item for my soon to be new kitchen and felt quite satisfied with the finished result. Once my engagement bliss settled down I realized that some kitchen essentials were missing. Namely, the right cookware and bakeware! ¬†I adore cooking, and baking especially [ proof, proof, and more proof ūüėȬ†]. Outfitting our kitchen with the right tools for creating the best dinners and treats is so important to me and Austin.¬†Cooking together is one our favorite activities to do as a couple! It is important to us that we have the highest quality cookware and bakeware on our wedding registry so¬†we can create the best possible results in our kitchen.

Creating a wedding registry is.. stressful. Am I the only one that completely stressed over that?! There are so many little things that are easy to forget to put on the registry. The bigger more essential items can be difficult to narrow down. When it comes to cooking fantastic meals, you need to start with fantastic cookware РPlain and simple. Starting with quality bakeware and cookware is key to coxing out the most delicious flavors from your food. I chose to outfit my first kitchen with Calphalon because I know that it provides me with the highest quality tools, that are expertly crafted and designed, to bring the best out of every meal, which is so important for me and Austin as we look to have the best cookware!

So what should be on your wedding registry? I have narrowed down the most essential cookeware and bakeware item that you need in your kitchen! These pieces are a great base to build off of. Many of these items can be added to your wedding registry in sets – making your life that much easier!

Essential Cookware

First things first: the cookware [ because you can’t have dessert without having dinner first.. or can you? ]. Great results in the kitchen start with quality¬†cooking tools. Selecting quality cookware is the ultimate way to build a kitchen collection that will encourage time together and inspire great tastes!

A starter kitchen, or any kitchen for that matter, should have these essential cookware items:

  • 1 8qt stock pot
  • 1 5qt dutch oven
  • 1 large¬†sauce pan
  • 1 medium sauce pan
  • 1 12in omelette pan
  • 1 10in omelette pan

These basic pots and pans will become your lifeline in the kitchen. Every delectable dish will start in one of them and come together in chef quality dinners for you and your partner! The Calphalon Contemporary Nonstick 12-piece Cookware Set is a great starter set for to put on your wedding registry.

Essential Bakeware

I am a sugar girl!¬†Desserts are my jam. I’ve never met a baked good that I didn’t like! Baking is a precise art; it takes thought and care to bake a cake well. The right ingredients and the right pan can produce some insanely good desserts! Creating the best treats begins with the tools you use to make them.

Every kitchen should be outfitted with these essential bakeware items:

  • 2 round cake pans
  • 1 square baking pan
  • 1 muffin pan
  • 1 large baking sheet
  • 1 small baking sheet
  • cooling rack

You can make life in the kitchen even easier if you opt for Calphalon’s Signature Nonstick Bakeware 6-Piece Set, and skip greasing the pan before you bake.

Good Cutlery

I absolutely cannot survive in the kitchen without a good set of cutlery. Knife cuts matter, babes! I started cooking when I was sixteen, and one of the first things that I learned how to do was knife cuts. Food just looks so much better when it’s cut properly. Remember: We eat with our eyes first!

Every kitchen should have these essential cutlery items:

  • 8″ chef’s knife
  • 6″ santoku knife
  • 1 paring knife
  • 6″ serrated knife
  • set of 4 steak knives
  • kitchen shears
  • self sharpening knife block

Trying to prepare/cut food with dull blades is a [ no pun intended ] recipe¬†for disaster. Make sure you add a self sharpening knife block to your wedding registry to keep those blades super sharp! The¬†Calphalon Precision‚ĄĘ 10-Piece Space-Saving Self-Sharpening Knife Block Set is the perfect option!

5 Do’s and Don’ts of Caring For Your Engagement Ring

You have spent years dreaming of the perfect engagement ring. Now that you’re engaged and that dream ring is a permanent fixture on your finger [ that’s seriously exciting right!? ], you will want to make sure that it stays as sparkly and shiny as possible – for many years to come!

Austin proposed this past December and it was just as special and magical as I hoped! I baby that beautiful diamond. After we got engaged I did a little research on the care of diamond engagement rings and there were a few things that I didn’t think about or realize. So today I am sharing 5 tips that have helped me take better care of my engagement ring and I hope they help you too!

Read on for 5 simple tips for keeping your engagement ring as safe and sparkly as possible.

Do Keep Your Ring Clean

To keep your diamond sparkling, clean it regularly to remove everyday dust/dirt, skin oils, and lotions. All of which cloud your diamond. You can soak your ring in warm water and mild dish soap, and scrub gently with a soft bristle toothbrush. Any brand name jewelry cleaner is a great option!
Of course, you can always take your ring to a jeweler to have it professionally cleaned if you’re not comfortable cleaning it yourself. Once every 6 months is a good timeframe.
Don’t let your diamond lose it’s sparkle! The¬†Jewelers Mutual Comprehensive Cleaning and Care Guide¬†is a great resource with time-based checklists to help keep you on track cleaning and caring for your ring all year long! Download you own checklist guide¬†here.

Do Purchase Insurance

Your engagement ring is an investment. It is important to protect that investment in the event that it gets damaged, lost, or stolen [ heaven forbid! ]. Getting the right jewelry coverage for your diamond ring is so important! Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company specializes solely in jewelry, so you can have peace of mind knowing that you get an extra level of protection that goes beyond what may be covered in typical homeowner’s or renters’s insurance.

Bonus Tip: Have your ring appraised every five years or so as the cost of precious metals and diamonds goes up. The value of lost ring that was appraised 10 years ago would be far less than the actual replicant cost. So make sure you have your ring appraised!

Do Schedule A Maintenance Appointment

It is so important to have regular maintenance done on your ring. Schedule an appointment with your jeweler at least once a year or every three months if your ring sees a lot of wear and tear. Your jeweler will make sure the prongs of your ring are tight and the diamond isn’t loose, as well as, checking for any hairlines cracks in the shank of the ring.

Don’t Remove Your Ring [ And Set It Down ] In Public

Removing your ring and setting it on top of the sink can be tempting when washing your hands in public, but this is a recipe for disaster. The chances of you walking out without your gem are very high. Steer clear of this temptation! If you must remove your ring, place it in the pocket of your purse. If you do forget to put it back on before you leave, your mind can rest easy knowing that it is still in your possession.

Don’t Expose Your Ring To Harsh Chemicals

Remove your ring whenever you perform tasks that require interaction with harsh chemicals [ often found in household cleaners ], scrub the bathroom, or wash the dishes. These tasks erode the setting and dull the finish of the ring.

Bonus Tip: Before you wash the dishes, remove your ring and put it in a safe place. Setting your ring on the windowsill or the counter can result in a heartbreaking slip that sends your ring tumbling down the drain! Don’t take the risk.

What is your number one do or don’t on taking care of your engagement ring? Was your proposal magical? Tell me all about it in the comments!¬†

6 Tips For Hosting An Elegant Bridal Shower

Hosting a bridal shower for the bride to be is an honor and a bundle of fun – Who doesn’t love a party, right? Though it can be undoubtedly stressful trying to coordinate between what the bridal party thinks the bride wants and what she actually hopes for, there are a few simple steps you can take to make it a success – And dare I say it.. the best bridal shower ever!

I had the pleasure of hosting my best girlfriend’s bridal shower recently and boy was it a wild ride. Opinions were abundant, ideas flying around like they had wings, and stress, well, that was plentiful too. More than anything though it was fun! I have sweet memories that I can carry with me always from our sophisticated and loving celebration.

Today I am sharing my top six tips for hosting a bridal shower to help your event go smoothly! No two bridal showers are the same, but, keeping a few things in mind while planning any bridal shower can make the process so much more enjoyable and ensure that it goes off without a hitch.

Make A Great First Impression.
Before guests ever get to the bridal shower you want to give them an idea of what the bridal shower will be like. Invest in high quality, beautifully designed bridal shower invitations to give guests a hint at the elegance to come.

Start here for good quality & elegant invites: Minted Stationery

First impression don’t stop there. You want to welcome guests into the venue, no matter the size, with pretty details that represent the couple being celebrated, and set the tone for the style and attitude of the shower. Place pictures, a welcome sign, flowers, balloons, or sweet treats at the entrance to welcome guests in with style and elegance!

Use The Wedding Colors.
One of the easiest ways to ensure less stress and create an elegant bridal shower is to use the color palette of the wedding. Theme’s can be super fun, and you can still bring theme elements in, but, sticking with the wedding color palette for bridal shower plates/napkins/cups, flowers, balloons, table decor, and even decorated treats will build a cohesive look that hints at the beautiful wedding to come!

Light Bites Go A Long Way.
Food is one of the very best ways to bring people together. Most of the time, bridal showers include women from different circles of friends, and different age ranges. A great bridal shower menu can make all of the difference in bringing women together. Generally speaking you want to keep three things in mind when planning the perfect bridal shower menu.

  • The flavor palette
  • The type of food
  • The bridal shower color theme

Consider the guests varied taste and plan your menu to fit within general appeal to all tastes and appetites, while impressing guests with delicious flavors! A bridal shower is a great place to put a sophisticated spin on the party menu. Finger food is one of the best choices for bridal shower food. Mini quiches, chicken salad, pasta salad, and fruit/cheese bites are great examples of easy, crowd pleasing finger foods. You can easily provide multiples options with finger food – anything that is easily eaten with just a plate and a fork will do! Stack your menu with a variety of finger foods that compliment each other, yet, hit the basic points: protein, savories, fruit, and sweets.

Play A Game and Shower Guests With Favors.
Once your guests have had a chance to eat and socialize get everyone’s attention and play a fun wedding themed game or two, and shower guests with thoughtful, useful favors! Favors add to the fun for guests and are a nice way to say thank you!

Cut/Serve The Cake While Presents Are Being Opened.
The process of opening bridal shower gifts can take over the entire shower. Everyone likes to enjoy this time and see what the bride received! It is the ideal time to cut and serve the cake – ensuring that the process is equally fun and deliciously sweet!

Do Enjoy The Bridal Shower Yourself.
During the time of eating, games and gift opening, take a step back and enjoy the shower too! After putting in all of the time and effort to make sure it goes off without a hitch you need to enjoy those happy moments with the bride and celebrate with everyone!
